This
hastily constructed shanty town of a page
replaces the previous games page. Nearby building
work constructing the front page caused total
page collapse. Local people blame unsound HTML
foundations. Normal service will be resumed as
soon as this page is constructed.
But in the meantime... How about some content
anyway. Oh I suppose. Do you think if I spent
less time apologising for the pages being under
construction I'd get some time to actually
construct them? Your guess is as good as mine,
but take my hand as we journey now through the
mythical world of our soon-to-be-never-released
games titles.
Sticky - What a terrible title.
I'm going to change it, one day, so please email
suggestions. This was the sample program included
in the article 'BASIC instinct', for Retro Gamer
issue 5. I reckon its far too good an idea to
just leave it there though, so its going to
become a proper game, with levels and everything.
We might even include a joke 3D mode just to see
how bad it is. Perhaps 'Zaxis' isn't such a poor
name for an arch-villain.
Treachery
- Remake of Mike Singleton's cruelly overlooked
1984 cold war spies game. Originally published in
C&VG as a listing, way back in 1984, this
game might as well not exist as far as the
internet's concerned. The plan is for this to be
resurrected as a play-by-email PC game, and a
good thing too.
Stalemate - Very old title which basically
shows that games can be renewed when moved to a
new format, as long as you exploit that new
format's strengths. This is basically
noughts-and-crosses, but with a computer-only
twist. You have to try to block either side
getting three in a row. Its actually the computer
AI that makes this game feasable. It would be
pointless playing this against a person as you'd
always lose.
Elementary, my Dear Watson - Card game
based on a twisted version of Sherlock Holmes
detection maxim, When you have eliminated the
impossible, whatever remains, however improbable,
must be the truth. In this game you are told
at the start who did it, and some of the clues,
and as Holmes you must make up an explanation of why.
The other players take on the role of Watson and
each gets to add a complication to the case,
which Holmes must then succesfully add to his
explanation.
Spin Doctor - Card game similar to Elementary,
my Dear Watson but simpler. Each player must
put a positive spin on various disasters to score
points.
If you're itching for a good game right now, and
the empty promises above aren't tempting you, why
not try the following:
Laser Squad Nemesis - The Gollop bros, the team behing
top turn-based tactical game behind UFO: Enemy
Unknown and Chaos have gone Indie, and
their first title is a scorching play by email
game with incredible tactical depth and
complexity. You'll be playing this for months.
And its cheap. And you can try it for free. Go on
then.
Squashy Software - Pure claymation games, as made in
Blitz Basic by Anthony Flack. Order Platypus from
this page, and he'll actually get rewarded for
his efforts.
Home of the Underdogs - A mixture of games history and
articles with some downloads. If you can't find
something you want to play here then give up and
go home. Particularly good for the Indie section,
and many overlooked and obscure titles.
Unfortunately its recently started being plagued
with pop-ups, so make sure you've got a decent
blocker going.
Board Game Geek - A great resource for board game
players and collectors. Has reviews, pictures and
dozens of rules translations and variations.
Magic.
